I get around this by reloading for my Tokarev. Right now, Classic Firearms has both Tokarevs and surplus ammo in stock. I really enjoy shooting my Tokarev, but would do it less often if I didn't reload. Commercial Makarov ammo seems easier to find.

A Tokarev is a full sized weapon, a Makarov is more of a compact gun. Just as the 7.62x25 is a full power round, the 9x18 is closer to the 380 than a 9mm in power. Yes there is that high powered Russian stuff but not something you will find on the shelves of your average gun store.
